The development of gerontology and geriatrics is presented from the point of view of the formation of concepts. The history of the next gerontological concepts is described: polymorbidity (multimorbidity), premature aging, geriatric syndromes and frailty, resilience, intrinsic capacity, and longevity medicine. It is presented that the following are the features of the development of gerontology and geriatrics in the postsoviet space: 1) the basis is the russian therapeutic school, 2) gerontology and geriatrics are developing along the path of forming new concepts, which in historical terms do not replace each other, but complement each other, giving impetus for the development of new directions, 3) currently, a new science such as longevity medicineis being formed on the basis of gerontology and geriatrics.
