Summary:
The article is devoted to the peculiarities of clinical epidemiology, pathogenesis, and medicamental falls prevention among the elderly suffering from diabetes type II. Andonthisbasisthereisa scientifically substantiated system of falls prevention for the given pathology in geriatrics. It has been noticed that a fall is the most frequent geriatric syndrome among those who suffer from diabetes type II. The frequency of the fall amounts to 32%, especially in case of diabetic polyneuropathy of the lower limbs, cerebral infarction aftereffects and the metabolic syndrome. Apathogenetic feature offallsamongmiddle-agedandelderly patients suffering from diabetes type II is proinflammatory activation, intensification of prooxidantprocesses and weakening of antioxidant ones, especially for the elderly. The usageofpiribedil and thioctic acid for treatment of vascular rencephalopathy type II and diabetic polyneuropathy certainly lowers the falls frequency among the elderly suffering from diabetes type II. It also improves the state of the oxidative status, lowers the rate of proinflammatory activation, which allows regarding them as effective medicamental factors of falls prevention. The system of falls prevention in geriatrics includes the usage of biochemical falls markers (proinflammatory activation, oxidative stress) and medicamental factors of falls prevention (piribedilandthioctic acid).
Keywords the elderly, piribedil, the oxidative status, diabetes, falls prevention.
