Summary:
In the elderly pneumonia is one of the most common infections and is one of the most important clinical problems of medical and geriatric practice, as associated with a high risk of morbidity and mortality. Pneumonia is a major cause of death among people in this age group after coronary heart disease, stroke, cancer. Approximately 50% of elderly patients pneumonia leads to death, it is the fourth leading cause of death in patients older than 65 years. Mortality from nosocomial pneumonia in these patients reaches 30-80%. The purpose of this study is to analyze the peculiarities of pneumonia in the elderly, to evaluate the effectiveness of modern methods of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases in the elderly. The main principles of prevention of complications of pneumonia are timely diagnosis and adequate treatment, a comprehensive survey of the volume. The solution of many problems of medical support in the fight against pneumonia in the elderly depends on the level of knowledge in the field not only pulmonology, and geriatrics, in particular, still little studied to date features and manifestations of the disease in patients in the older age-specific body's response to drugs drugs. In elderly patients with pneumonia antibiotic therapy is required. However, no matter how effective was not a method of treatment, it is an important aspect in the treatment of pneumonia is timely, adequate and coordinated work of all care.
