Summary:
The purpose of this research was to identify the frequency combination of AMD with Alzheimer's. Embryological, anatomical and physiological unity of the brain and eyes, their microcirculation create the preconditions for the rise in their friendly processes, including pathological, morphological substrate of which is the accumulation of proteins and neurodegeneration. Histochemical study of the eye and the brain in Alzheimer's patients with age-related macular degeneration revealed a significant percentage of cases of compatibility of these two diseases. The results of the study of the brain vessels and structural elements of the retina and choroid in patients with age-related macular degeneration in Alzheimer's disease can treat these two diseases as friendly neurodegenerative processes, which are based on the pathological aggregation of β-amyloid protein. According to the authors, a careful study of the structural elements of the eye fundus in patients with age-related macular degeneration in Alzheimer's disease is a perspective for understanding the mechanisms underlying the development of neurodegenerative diseases.
Keywords age-related macular degeneration, Alzheimer's disease, amyloidosis, forum.
